UK Global Talent visa - star in laurel wreath

The Global Talent visa is the UK’s flagship route for leaders and rising stars in academia, technology and the arts — with no job offer, no sponsor and no salary threshold. This 2026 guide explains the fields covered, how endorsement works, the cost, and the fast route to settlement.

Who is it for?

It’s for leaders or potential leaders in three broad areas:

  • Academia and research — science, engineering, medicine, social sciences and humanities;
  • Digital technology — including AI, cybersecurity, fintech and gaming;
  • Arts and culture — including architecture, fashion, film and television, and (from March 2026) design.

How endorsement works

Most applicants first get endorsed by an approved body in their field, then apply for the visa. There are fast-track shortcuts: certain academic and research appointments are fast-tracked, and named winners of a qualifying prestigious prize can skip endorsement and apply directly.

No job offer, no salary test

Unlike the Skilled Worker visa, there’s no sponsor and no minimum salary — you’re assessed entirely on the strength of your endorsement and evidence, and you can work flexibly in your field.

Cost and settlement

Under the endorsement route the fee is about £766 (£561 for stage-1 endorsement + £205 for the visa), plus the IHS. The big advantage is settlement speed: ILR after 3 years for Exceptional Talent, prize-holders and fast-track researchers, or 5 years for Exceptional Promise.
