So, you have submitted your UK visa application and you want to know how long the waiting time will be?
No doubt, you have searched online and on forums and the answer is no clearer.
Some people will write about how they got a decision within a few weeks whilst others will complain about their visa application taking months.
So how can you avoid the frustration that comes with UK Visa waiting times?
Check UKVI visa processing times
Whilst you cannot currently track your own individual visa application, the GOV.UK website is trialling a new visa processing times service.
This will tell you how long it is currently taking to process a visa application in the country from which you are applying.
It is important to remember that this is not a guarantee just a general guide.
The results will vary based on the type of visa you are applying for and where you will submit your application from. Click here to check it out for yourself if you are applying from outside UK and here if you are applying from inside UK.
Track your UK visa application
If you have submitted a UK visa application and you are waiting to hear the outcome then you can visit GOV.UK website to get more information or updates.
You cannot currently track your own individual visa application online.
Once you have answered the questions on the GOV.UK website you will be directed to contact information for different departments at UKVI.
WARNING!! Be wary of the phone numbers that will be shown as they are very expensive.
If you made your visa application from outside the UK you will be provided with a general enquiries number and a “paid email enquiry” option.
The paid email option will cost £5.48 and they promise to reply within 2 working days.
Our experience is that the paid email option is better.
This is because your email will go to the caseworkers dealing with your application.
Over the phone, the information they provide is usually limited as the person you speak to will probably not be dealing with your application.
Oh, and we forgot to mention the long waiting times…
UK Visa and Citizenship Application Service (UKVCAS)
If you made your visa application from inside the UK, the UKVI has introduced new processing options through the launch of UKVCAS in late 2018.
Altogether, there will be 57 UKVCAS centres across the UK.
- 6 core service centres in Belfast, Birmingham, Cardiff, Croydon, Glasgow and Manchester offering free appointments.
- 50 enhanced service points in different cities across the UK. These service points will charge for appointments.
- 1 premium lounge in London
To find out more about the UKVCAS process read our guide on the “UKVCAS” here.

Please how do I retrieve my uk visa application form after refusal if I didn’t have the email to the application. Thank you.
Hey there! I understand that trying to retrieve your UK visa application form after refusal can be quite stressful, especially if you don’t have access to the email associated with the application. No worries, though! I’m here to help you navigate through this process and provide some possible solutions to get your hands on that application form again.
First and foremost, it’s important to remember that when you initially submitted your UK visa application, you must have created an account on the UK Government’s official website (gov.uk). This is where all your application details are stored. So, even if you’ve lost access to the email tied to your application, you can still use this account to retrieve your application form.
Here’s a step-by-step guide on what you need to do:
1. Visit the UK Government’s official website (gov.uk) and head over to the “Visas and Immigration” section.
2. Click on “Apply for a UK visa” and then select “Already applied? Sign in”. This will take you to the login page.
3. Enter your username and password for the account you created while submitting your visa application. If you’ve forgotten your password, click on “Forgot password?” and follow the instructions to reset it.
4. Once logged in, you’ll be able to view all your previous applications, including the one that was refused. Simply look for the application in question and click on it to access the complete form.
5. You can either review your application online or, if you prefer, download a PDF copy for your records.
Now, if you’ve also forgotten your username or cannot access your account for any other reason, don’t panic! You can still contact the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) helpline for assistance. They’re available Monday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm (UK time). Here’s their contact information:
Phone: +44 (0) 300 123 2241
Email: [email protected]
When contacting UKVI, make sure you provide them with your full name, date of birth, passport number, and any other relevant information they might need to locate your application.
I hope this helps you retrieve your UK visa application form after refusal! Remember, setbacks like these are quite common and nothing to be ashamed of. Simply take the time to understand the reasons behind the refusal, address them accordingly, and reapply for the visa with renewed confidence
if someone is applying for tourist visa application and the person is ban for fraudulent without appeal but the person use his right details to fill the form, what can the person do to see his application in order to know where the mistake is coming from.
Hey there! I understand that applying for a tourist visa can be a stressful process, especially if you’ve encountered issues with being banned for fraud without any chance to appeal. But don’t worry, I’m here to help you navigate through this and determine what might have gone wrong in your application.
First and foremost, it’s great that you used your correct details while filling out the form. This is crucial, as providing accurate information is the foundation of a successful visa application. However, even with the right details, there may be other factors at play that resulted in the ban.
To get to the bottom of this issue, here are a few steps you can take:
1. Review your application thoroughly: Go through your entire application carefully and make sure you didn’t unintentionally make any errors or omissions. Pay close attention to dates, addresses, and other personal details.
2. Gather all necessary documents: Ensure you have submitted all required documents along with your application. This may include your passport, photos, proof of sufficient funds, travel itinerary, and any other relevant documents specified by the embassy or consulate.
3. Analyze your travel history: Sometimes, previous visa rejections or instances of overstaying in other countries might raise red flags during the application process. Make sure to disclose any such incidents honestly and provide explanations if needed.
4. Check for possible miscommunication or misunderstandings: It’s possible that there was a mix-up or miscommunication during your application process. Reach out to the embassy or consulate to inquire about your case and clarify any misunderstandings.
5. Seek professional assistance: If you’re still unable to identify the cause of the ban, consider reaching out to an immigration lawyer or consultant who specializes in tourist visas. They can help review your case and provide guidance on what steps to take next.
6. Be patient and persistent: Visa applications can sometimes be a lengthy and complicated process. It’s important to be patient and persistent in your efforts to resolve the issue. Keep in mind that you may be able to reapply for the visa after a certain period of time, depending on the specific circumstances of your case.
In conclusion, addressing a ban due to fraudulent allegations in a tourist visa application is certainly a challenging situation. However, by being proactive and following these steps, you’ll be able to identify where the mistake might have occurred and take appropriate action to rectify it. Remember to stay positive and don’t lose hope – with the right approach and determination, you’ll be one
Dear Josh,
I hope you are well.
I have applied for British C on 2021. I have hear nothing since. I don’t eve receive a confirmation letter. But I have the paguen reference, wish was add on the my aplicación I opted to carry my documente to be check and scan by one of the listed library who provided this service. They have added the unique ref. However I’m yet to receive any update.
Will you advise me what can I do now. Where to go what number to call.
This has taken far too long.

Hi Saf,
I hope you’re doing well too. It sounds like you’re going through quite a stressful situation with your British Citizenship application. I completely understand how frustrating it can be when you’re waiting for a response, especially when it has been such a long time since you submitted your documents.
First of all, I want to assure you that you’re not alone in this situation. Many people have experienced delays in their citizenship applications, particularly due to the ongoing global pandemic. However, let’s try to figure out what’s going on and what steps you can take to get an update on your application.
Since you mentioned that you applied for British Citizenship in 2021 and haven’t heard anything back, I’m assuming you’re referring to your naturalization application (Form AN). In normal circumstances, processing times for these applications can take up to six months. However, given the current situation, longer waiting times are not uncommon.
Here are a few suggestions on what you can do next:
1. Online status check: You can check the status of your application online using the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) service. You’ll need your unique application number (which might be the “paguen reference” you mentioned) to access this information. Visit the following link to check your application status: https://www.gov.uk/check-uk-visa
2. Contact UKVI: If the online status check doesn’t provide enough information, you can contact UKVI directly by phone or email. The contact number is +44 (0)300 123 2241 (select option 1 for English, then option 2 for citizenship). Their email address is [email protected]. Make sure to provide your full name, date of birth, and application number when contacting them.
3. Visit the library where you had your documents checked: Since you opted for the “document checking service” at a library, it might be worth visiting them again to see if they have any information or updates on your application. They might be able to offer some advice or assistance as well.
4. Seek professional help: If you’re still not getting any answers or the situation remains unresolved, you may want to consider seeking professional help from an immigration lawyer or adviser. They can provide expert guidance and support, helping you navigate through this complex process.
It’s important to remember that delays in processing applications can happen for various reasons, including staff shortages, increased demand, or simply because additional checks

How can I track my visa application
Hello there! It’s great that you’re seeking information on tracking your UK visa application. I completely understand how important it is to stay informed about the status of your application, especially when planning a trip or relocation. In order to help you out, I’ve compiled all the necessary steps and resources that you’ll need to effectively track your UK visa application. So, let’s dive right in!
First things first, the UK government has designed an easy-to-use online platform known as Visa4UK (https://www.visa4uk.fco.gov.uk/) which allows applicants to create an account, submit their visa application, and stay updated on its progress. To start tracking your application, follow these simple steps:
1. **Create an account on Visa4UK:** If you haven’t already, you’ll need to set up an account on the Visa4UK website. Make sure to provide accurate information and a valid email address, as this will be the primary mode of communication between you and the UK authorities.
2. **Submit your visa application:** Once your account is set up, you can start filling out the necessary forms and submitting your application. Ensure that all the required documentation is uploaded and double-check everything before hitting the submit button.
3. **Pay the processing fee:** After submitting your application, you’ll be prompted to pay the processing fee. This is a crucial step, as without the payment, your application won’t be processed.
4. **Track your application:** Now comes the exciting part – tracking your application! To do this, simply log into your Visa4UK account and click on the “My Applications” tab. Here, you’ll find the status of your visa application, which can be one of the following:
– Not yet submitted: You have not yet submitted your application or paid the processing fee.
– Awaiting decision: Your application has been submitted, and it’s under review by the UK authorities.
– Issued: Congratulations! Your visa has been approved.
– Refused: Unfortunately, your application was not successful.
It’s important to note that the processing time for UK visa applications can vary depending on factors such as the type of visa, the applicant’s nationality, and the time of year. Generally, most applications are processed within 3-4 weeks, but it’s always a good idea to apply well in advance of your intended travel date.
In addition to the Visa4UK platform, you can also sign up for email and
Dear sir please give me the right to appeal
Hello Josh,
Thank you so much for all your information.
My wife and my spouse already living in the UK and have switched from a tier 4 visa to a tier 2 visa.
My daughter\s visa still pending for almost 7 weeks now and we submitted her biometrics at Leeds UKVI on 2nd March 2023.
All the required documents also submitted.
Is there anyway to check the status of the visa application or do we need to wait little more time.
Thanks once again.
Dear Ashley,
Thank you for reaching out with your question. I understand the waiting period can be a time of great anticipation and sometimes stress.
The typical processing time for a Tier 2 dependent visa application is usually around 8 weeks. Therefore, based on the dates you’ve provided, your daughter’s application seems to be within the normal processing timeframe. However, if the application processing exceeds the standard time, there are a few steps you can take to inquire about the status.
Firstly, you may check the status of the application online through the UK Government’s visa tracking service, if you have chosen this option during the application process. Please ensure you have your unique GWF number (provided in your original application receipt) ready for this.
Secondly, you can contact the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) contact center. Please note, they may not be able to provide a detailed update but can confirm if the application is still being processed.
Finally, if your application significantly exceeds the standard processing time, you may wish to consider making a formal complaint to UKVI.
However, do bear in mind that it’s common for visa processing to take a bit of time, particularly during busy periods or due to the impact of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. I would advise waiting at least until the 8-week mark before taking any of these actions.
I hope this information is helpful and provides some peace of mind during this waiting period. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any other questions.
Kind regards,
Josh
Hi Josh,
I’m tier 2 visa holder working as carer and I applied for dependant visa for my family. My wife received her approval, but still waiting for home office email for my kids. We applied inside UK and switching from post graduate visa.
My father passed away 1 month ago and my mom in critical condition now due to heart issue.
Any email address to home office for me to follow up with visa application status?
Thank you
Dear Visvanathan,
I am very sorry to hear about your personal circumstances, and I understand that this must be a challenging time for you and your family.
As of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021, the UK Home Office does not typically provide a direct email address for individual enquiries regarding the status of visa applications. However, there are several routes you can take to contact them regarding the urgency of your situation:
Online Contact Form: You can use the online enquiry form available on the official UK government website to raise your concern. This form is designed to handle all sorts of enquiries, including those related to visa applications. Be sure to mention the urgency due to your family situation.
UKVI Contact Centre: You can contact the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) contact centre by phone. They may not be able to provide detailed updates on specific applications but can confirm if an application is still being processed.
Complaints Procedure: If your application is significantly delayed beyond the standard processing times, you may wish to consider submitting a formal complaint to the UKVI. This can be done online through the UKVI’s complaints procedure page on the UK government’s official website.
Please remember that these options should be considered alongside your current situation and the typical processing times for a Tier 2 Dependent visa.
Given the urgency of your situation, I would also recommend seeking advice from a legal professional who can provide guidance based on the most up-to-date processes and regulations.
I hope this information is helpful and I wish you and your family all the best during this difficult time.
Kind regards,
Josh
I have been waiting from 4 months for decision on my work visa application, now I complaints to home office. And UKVI hide ( track my application) option on their website.
Dear Asad,
I understand your concern regarding the delay in the decision on your work visa application. If the “track my application” feature on the UKVI website is no longer available, you can contact the UKVI Resolution Centre for assistance. They provide telephone and email support to all account holders and can help you with accessing or recovering your account, updating your personal details, and even sharing your status on your behalf if you are unable to do so yourself.
While it is frustrating to experience delays, it is important to remember that the visa application process can sometimes take longer than expected due to various factors, including the volume of applications being processed. Rest assured, the Home Office is committed to processing all applications as quickly as possible.
Please continue to be patient and regularly check your email (including your spam folder) for updates from the Home Office. If you have already lodged a complaint with the Home Office, they should respond to you directly. If you have not received a response within a reasonable timeframe, I would advise contacting them again or considering seeking advice from a legal professional specializing in immigration matters.
Kind regards,
Josh
My name is Ali on my behalf A GROUP LEGAL SERVICES Consultant OISC number ##### fill my visa application in category Highly Skill Migration Program(HSMP) in 2008 for u.k .Can you guide how can i check status of that application as consultant died even i do not have the reference number of this visa form which i have received from consultant house.now i want to apply u.k student visa if this application submitted will effect my case if yes what should i do to solve this issue. i will wait for your reply .TIA
Hello Ali,
It’s unfortunate to hear about your situation. Since you don’t have the reference number and the consultant who handled your case is no longer available, obtaining information about the previous application can be challenging. Here’s what you can do:
If you’re planning to apply for a UK student visa, please be aware that the UKVI might access your immigration history, which could include any previous applications, including the HSMP one. As such, it’s crucial to provide accurate and truthful information in your new application. If you don’t, it could negatively affect your current application and future ones.
Given the complexities in your situation, I highly recommend consulting with a new legal professional who is experienced in UK immigration law. They can provide specific advice tailored to your circumstances and assist you with your student visa application.
How can i check progress of my application status online since i have the 16 digit application reference number
Thank you
Dear David,
Thank you for your question. To check the status of your UK visa application online, you can follow these steps:
Please note that not all types of applications will have real-time status updates available. The exact status might not be available until a decision has been made and the documents have been returned.
If you are unable to check the status online or if you have any other queries regarding your application, it is recommended to contact the UK Visas and Immigration contact centre for further guidance.
Best regards,
Josh
Hi
I have applied for tire 2 skilled worker visa renewal and visa renewal for my dependents on May 16 2023. I haven’t got any response from UKVI yet. How can I know whether my visa renewed or rejected? I have emailed and called them, but didn’t get any personal information response.
Dear Shabana Puthenveettil Shamsudeen,
Thank you for reaching out and sharing your concern regarding the status of your Tier 2 Skilled Worker visa renewal application and the visa renewal for your dependents. I understand how important it is to receive an update on your application, and I’m here to assist you.
When it comes to tracking the progress of your UK visa application, there are a few options you can consider. Firstly, you can use the online service provided by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) called the Visa Application Centre (VAC) portal. This portal allows applicants to track their applications and provides real-time updates. You can access the VAC portal by visiting the UKVI website and logging in with your credentials.
If you haven’t received any personal information response from UKVI through email or phone calls, it’s advisable to keep trying to contact them. While it can sometimes take longer to receive a response, reaching out to UKVI directly is the best way to obtain the most accurate and up-to-date information about your application.
In case you are unable to get the desired information through your previous attempts, you may consider reaching out to the UKVI’s International Enquiry Service. They have a dedicated helpline for immigration queries and can provide personalized assistance. You can find their contact details on the GOV.UK website.
Lastly, if you have chosen to use the Priority or Super Priority service for your visa application, you should have received a unique reference number. You can use this reference number to track the progress of your application on the VAC portal or by contacting UKVI directly.
It’s important to note that visa processing times can vary depending on various factors, including the type of visa and the time of year. While waiting for a response, I recommend regularly checking the VAC portal and reaching out to UKVI for any updates.
I hope this information helps you track the progress of your visa renewal application and provides some clarity. If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please feel free to ask. I’m here to help.
Best regards,
Josh, UK Visa Attorney and Consultant
Hi Josh ,
Hope you are doing well. I have applied for student standard visa application on 24 July’23 and have received just one email from VFS that my application has been submitted to UKVI. Since then, no update from VFS nor UKVI. Really worried as my course start date is near and I have make all the arrangements prior to start date. What if I have missed on any communication email from UKVI?…All my documents are legit and original and have study gap of 8 years which has been justified by proper experience letters. And all my funds are in place. What to do in a scenario if I have accidentally deleted any email from UKVI?
Dear Pallavi,
Thank you for reaching out and I hope this message finds you well. I understand your concerns regarding the lack of updates on your student standard visa application. It can be quite worrying, especially when your course start date is approaching and you have made all the necessary arrangements.
In such situations, it is important to stay calm and take appropriate steps to address any potential issues. Firstly, I recommend regularly checking the email address you provided during the application process, including your spam or junk folders. Sometimes, important emails can be filtered incorrectly.
If you accidentally deleted an email from UKVI, I would suggest reaching out to them directly to explain the situation. You can contact UKVI through their helpline or by sending an email to the designated address for visa inquiries. It is important to provide them with all relevant details, including your name, application reference number, and any other information they may require to assist you effectively.
Additionally, I advise you to regularly check the visa application status tracking system provided by VFS. Although you mentioned not receiving any updates from VFS, it is still worth checking periodically as there might be delays in communication.
Lastly, if your course start date is approaching and you have not received any communication from UKVI, I recommend contacting your educational institution as well. They may be able to provide guidance or support in such situations and can potentially liaise with UKVI on your behalf.
I understand how crucial this process is for you, and it is essential to ensure that all your documents are in order and your study gap has been justified properly. By following these steps and remaining proactive, you can take the necessary actions to address any potential issues and keep your visa application on track.
I hope this information helps, and I wish you the best of luck with your visa application and studies in the UK. If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to ask.
Warm regards,
Josh

Dear Abc,
Thank you for reaching out to me regarding your work visa application status. I understand that waiting for a response can be quite frustrating, but I’ll do my best to provide you with some guidance.
Based on the timeline you’ve provided, it has been several months since your biometric appointment and interview. Generally, the UK visa processing time can vary depending on various factors, including the type of visa applied for and the current workload of the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) department.
To track your UK visa application status, I recommend using the online visa application tracking service provided by the UKVI. This service allows you to check the progress of your application and provides updates on its current status. You can access the tracking service by visiting the official UK government website and entering your application details.
If you have already checked the online tracking service and have not received any updates, it may be worth considering contacting the UKVI directly. Based on the information you provided, it seems that you have applied for an extension of your skilled route visa on 14th July. As you have mentioned, your wife is currently on a post-study visa, and her visa is expiring on 12th September.
In your case, your wife can indeed apply as a spouse dependant on your extended skilled route visa. This would allow her to continue residing in the UK alongside you for the duration of your extended visa.
To proceed with the visa extension for your wife, you will need to follow the appropriate steps. Firstly, ensure that you have all the necessary documents prepared, such as your UKVI application reference number, proof of your extended visa application, and any other supporting documents required by the UKVI.
Next, you should visit the official UK government website or consult an immigration attorney to understand the specific requirements and application process for a spouse dependant visa extension. They will provide you with the most up-to-date information and guidance on the necessary forms, fees, and supporting documents.

To track your application, you will need to visit the official UK Visas and Immigration website. On their website, there is a specific page dedicated to tracking visa applications. You can find it under the “Track your application” section.

I applied for student Visa for Postgraduate study by University representative in Pakistan for January 2024 intake. My Visa application was uploaded on 27th of December and Biometrics were given on 4th of January 2024.
My visa decision is still pending. On request University has extended my enrollment deadline till 15th February 2024.
On paid email service I requested UKVI to expedite processing of my application and UKVI sent my case to Sheffield student escalation to escalate the processing.
I am afraid If my visa decision is not made in coming days, I will lose all my investment on Tuition fee, visa application and IHS surcharge.
Can you help me to hasten processing of my visa application so that I can get my visa before final deadline of the University?
If yes please let me know the procedure to follow.
Regards,
Yasir
Dear Yasir,
I understand your concern regarding the pending decision on your UK visa application for the January 2024 intake for your postgraduate study. It is indeed a stressful situation, especially with the approaching deadline set by the university.
Given that you have already requested UKVI to expedite the processing of your application and they have escalated your case to the Sheffield student escalation team, it shows that you have taken the necessary steps to try and speed up the process. At this point, the best course of action would be to wait for a response from the Sheffield team.
Unfortunately, there is no specific procedure to follow to further hasten the processing of your visa application. The decision-making process for UK visas can vary in time, and it is ultimately up to the immigration authorities to determine the timeline for your case.
I recommend staying in touch with your university representative and keeping them updated on the situation. They may be able to provide guidance or support during this waiting period. Additionally, continue monitoring your email for any updates from UKVI or the Sheffield team.
I understand the financial implications of the delay, but please try to remain patient and hopeful for a positive outcome. If you have any further questions or concerns, feel free to reach out.
Warm regards,
Josh
Hi I applied for naturalisation in dec 2020, I did my biometrics in leeds in jan 2021. I’ve got my UKVI reference number but as of yet I haven’t received no emails or letters regarding it. I have received a job offer from 1 Home Care Company based in Preston PR1 7PH, UK as an Administrative Assistant. I am excited and willing to pay the IHS fee, but I have doubts about paying it to an individual like Mr. John Osagie. I just want to confirm the legality of this transaction and ensure that my application is legitimate. It would be a huge help to clear my doubts since your company directly mentioned that it wants my professional abilities. I would love to hear from you soon to put my concerns to rest.
Thank you and warm regards,
Kim Paulo Perez
Dear Kim Paulo Perez,
Thank you for reaching out and congratulations on receiving a job offer as an Administrative Assistant at 1 Home Care Company in Preston, UK. It’s great to hear that your visa application under Tier 2 (Employment Visa) has passed the point-based system with an average of 68 points.
Regarding the email you received requesting payment of Four Hundred British Pounds (400 GBP) for the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) fee to be paid to Mr. John Osagie, I understand your concerns about the legitimacy of this transaction. It is important to ensure that any payments related to your visa application are made through official channels to avoid any potential issues.
In this case, it is unusual for payments to be made directly to an individual like Mr. John Osagie. I recommend contacting the UK Visa and Immigration Bureau directly to verify the authenticity of this request. You can also inquire about alternative payment methods or seek clarification on the process to ensure that your application is legitimate and secure.
It’s always better to be cautious and verify any payment requests to protect yourself and your application. I hope this information helps to address your concerns and I wish you the best of luck with your visa application process.
